This film stars Varma, Nasseruddin Shah and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles. It is a story of two friends who lure money from the villagers. Director Rajkumar Santoshi made it on a budget of 10 crore with an idea from his son Abhay that he could make a film on the concept. The music of this film was composed by A.R Rahman and lyrics of all songs were penned by Ismail Merchant and Qateel Shifai except one song written by Gulshan Bawliwala and another by Aditya Music Company Pvt Ltd; all songs were sung by Arko Mukherjee . The film is based on the concept of a "travelling soap opera". The film tells the story of two buddies who once travelled into the villages with a vision to uplift the villagers. They promised them their lands and also wanted to give them better and brighter future and accordingly, they had left the villages with great hopes.
